It was back in 2005; when my dad came back from a trip from the States. Upon his homecoming I knew that he would have gotten me a couple of CDs (which he did, Switchfoot's Nothing is Sound) and a shirt or two. But after all of that my Dad pulled out a lime green packaging, 12 x 12cm, an inch thick, from his bag; a 1GB first generation iPod shuffle. And my life was never the same.
It was the most random gift i had received from my Dad, YES Dad, mom wasn't too thrilled about it at all. ha-ha. At that time iPods weren't very common. I was the first of my peers to own one of these devices. Myself, never being a very technology savvy person had never owned a walkman, music player, or of any form of electronic media/entertainment thingy prior to that. I thought it was the coolest thing ever, the genuine excitement and amazement of being able to listen to music anywhere. Malls, transitions, tuition, toilet, jungle. ANYWHERE. And till this very day that I still treasure that very feeling. I remember feeling very grateful that I had gotten a 1GB ipod as to the 512MB one.
However, THESE DAYS, it's quite sad to see how society treat iPhones and iPads alike. They've become such objects of desire and too highly regarded, a status symbol. People and their constant obsession to posses the latest iPhone/iPad, fuck that. Y'all're tools. I guess i'm just discontented with the shift of roles the iPod has taken, the role of a gaming device primarily rather than a music playing device. Even to those who use it for "music"krappy kpop ain't music.
